‘idle-timeout’ is used to detect, if client is not using Router networks, reaching timeout user will be logged out, etc.
‘keep-alive-timeout’ used to detect, if is available and reachable, if check fails client will be dropped out, etc.
![]()
in other words, idle timeout checks traffic, keepalive timeout checks availability. if user is online but is just not sending./receiving anything, he may reach its idle timeout. keepalive timeout may only be reached if client is physicaky disconnected or turned off.
As far as I know keepalive timeout monitors the client’s workstation by pinging the client. So if the client has a ICMP block on their firewall keepalive timeout should not be used.
thanks very much
Many of our users are always complaining that they are getting logged out always and when I checked microtik logs, it says keep alive timeout.
So is there a way to switch off keep alive feature and use idle timeout ?
If yes, then where ?
hello all,
so how to disable both of and , i mean i so not want the router to use them… so the hotspot user is not disconnected.
at least to disable ; so if the user is not using the network he is not disabled from the network and not being required to insert the username and password again…
