yes. use CompactFlash or external USB device. just attach the device and select it in the proxy “cache drive” settings. this setting is available in recent version of RouterOS
are you using v3.10? also, more importantly - the RB230 supports regular IDE hard drives, which is even better for proxy.
Under 3.X USB devices show up as SATA under Proxy..
I belive SATA / USB is Ver 3X..
To power the drive (2.5") this is a STD 44pin IDE. it will power a 2.5" drive (by STD).
If the device is “local” and not on a tower, a drive is fine (faster). If it is not easy to get to (incase the drive fails) than flash may be the way to go..
Remember. Ver 3.X will want a bit more memory (The 2xx series uses a memory module so Happy days..)
Hope this helps..
Look under system/license this will show you the version you can upgrade thru.
IE 2.X , 3.X, 4.X
If it shows 3.X (or 4.X) then good to go..
If it shows 2.X (Or a date that has gone by for older OSs) then an upgrade will be required.
Oh what fun…
Make sure you have the correct version.
For Routerboard 2XX there is its own page..
Make sure the file is transfered in BINARY mode and not TEXT.
I would suggest you doa a Copy and paste rather than a drag and drop.
- Select the upgrade files.
- Select Copy from the file menu.
- I winbox / under file(s) press Paste..
The files will transfer into the root of the file structure in binary mode.
Reboot the router…
