Also would be nice have a button to automatically add a range of IP/MAC addresses. Enable/Disable buttons for them and/or alerts on more resources to use these address lists as “check lists”, “to-do lists”, “thrash lists”, “fix-me lists”, “renumbering lists”, etc. What else these address lists should be used for?
So, I use for check lists so far… Thx…
If you are talking about ‘Address Lists’ then you can already add ranges to
them, otherwise it is not clear to us what exactly you mean (where to add a
range of ip addresses? To network map?) Please be more specific, to make us
better understand the problem.
Oh, Im sorry.
When add a “address list” item, its just ask for a name, which is one of many address list you can have on DUDE. We named our lists conventionally with the network notation, i.e:
- “192.168.0.1/24”
and consequently we add notes on this item refering things about this network. When you double-click this item, you open the address list. We use these lists as follow. We add a entire range manually, i. e:
- first add “xxx.xxx.xxx.1”;
- then add “xxx.xxx.xxx.2”;
- and so on until it reach “xxx.xxx.xxx.254”.
Would be nice to have a button to enter “192.168.0.1/24” and its routine automatically make 254 entrys on that list without any note, or in other words, “free IP addresses”. To avoid to add 254 items about a class C network range manually at least.
I wonder it will have a limit (perhaps a warning), cuz who knows how much DUDE will get hurt if you enter a class A range, i.e. “10.0.0.0/8” which will add 16.777.214 entrys. Well, we wont a big list at all. ![]()
Then, about people that are using a specific IP address, we add notes about who are using that IP address. Free IP address slots are the items that dont have any note on it. We use this list by this way as a “check used IP address list” for fixed IP networks, so, that notes have a convention meaning a specific status of that IP address. i.e:
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.1” = “reserved”;
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.2” = “in use?”;
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.3” = “test”;
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.4” = “”;
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.5” = “fulano”;
- “xxx.xxx.xxx.6” = “error!? run! call the spider man!”.
Its kinda the same when you open the device list. But this address list is just a list that does not affect DUDE´s funcionality at all, right?
So, we have added many things there (cuz the lack of a notebook thing, perhaps a reminder system on dude?) including things to do, things to fix, things to setup something else, even class A networks ranges and addresses. Is there another use for those lists? Maybe we using it wrong?
Oh yes, it was off topic, Im sorry. But also, we asking for MAC address lists feature on this thread, i.e:
-
MAC Address list name = “MAC telnet devices” (devices without any IP address).
-
MAC address list item 1 = “00:b0:33:44:55:66” = “North Bridge”;
-
MAC address list item 2 = “00:b0:33:44:55:67” = “South Bridge”;
-
MAC address list item 3 = “00:b0:33:44:55:68” = “East Bridge”;
-
MAC address list item 4 = “00:b0:33:44:55:69” = “West Bridge”.
Thank you. Not a problem at all, just a feature request.
