Firmware and Packages [resolved]

All,

I’m a bit confused as to how the upgrades are supposed to work for the Mikrotik units. For example, I have an RB751 that I wish to upgrade firmware on. If I download 6.0rc14, all packages and I upgrade all of my packages to the unit I notice that my RouterOS version is 3.05. Is the router OS upgraded separately than the packages? If I go to mikrotik.com/downloads and click mipsbe I also see some v5.25. what is the difference between these packages because 5.25 also seems to upgrade packages but the structure is much different. can someone elaborate on this please?

no. package and routeros is the same. eg, you need the pakage made for your routeros version (OS).

Routerboard firmware is something else than the OS. try / routerboard print or upgrade.

Its possible ( but not recommended) to run old firmware and new routeros (unless on some old bards, that need the firmware upgrade)

Ok, makes sense. It just seems the formatting was changed from 5.25 to 6rc14.
