The message appears for both Firefox ESR and Brave, despite the fact that they are both up to date.

That's not true. There was a forum maintenance update today (at 10am MikroTik local time) that lasted about one hour. They seem to have upgraded the forum software (now you have the WYSIWYG post editor, and they have introduced the JetBrains Mono font for code (which I have promptly overridden with Consolas).
We're talking about 3:02pm and 3:44pm, in realtime, not some hours ago...
What I meant was, that the forum software update probably introduces the new browser requirements (apparently Brave is no supported?).
Edit: Ok I just saw your post where it works in both browser software, so it's probably some thing else on OP's computer
