hAP ac2 with USB external disc

Hi all

I just bought hAP ac2.
For now everything is clear except that I can not connect an external drive to the USB port in such a way as to make it a network drive (let’s say a substitute for NAS).
It is possible ?
If yes please tell me how.

In Winbox go to: system → disks. You should see there the name of your usb drive, i.e: usb1
Select it and click “Format Drive”. Obviously all data on this drive will be deleted.
Then go to files. There should be your usb mounted in root folder under the name: /usb1
Now, click: IP → SMB → Shares → Add, and type the name of the share you want to create and the path where usb drive is mounted: /usb1
In ‘SMB Settings’ window check ‘Allow Guests’ and verify that everything works fine. Later you can uncheck this option and add allowed users.

Does know anyone the maximum size supported by hAP AC 2 on usb ? Can i put a 12Tb or bigger ?

Thanks.

None of Mikrotik devices allow USB NAS drive usage (or rather say implement it…).
Many people asked for this.
The USB is for logging, data base storage (user manager, dude etc.). Not for network storage.
Another usage is adding LTE modem to the device via USB.

But no NAS, sorry…

For sure a 320GB 2.5" Samsung external HDD is usable as a network storage as I had installed it like this and worked without problems.

It is. But the performance is below any acceptable level and even then it bogs down whole router. These devices simply are not meant to be NAS devices. The sooner you’ll accept it, he better.
