hAP aX2 satellite WAP to hAP AX3 using wifiwave2

I’m currently running an AX3 as a straightforward domestic router/ap, with a DHCP client on Eth1 and all other interfaces bridged.

I now want to configure an AX2 device to operate as a switch/WAP on the AX3 LAN subnet. Having read available articles I have become confused because they all assume the use of the traditional wifi package, and not the WifiWave2 package. The help pages provide an example of setting up CAPSMAN in WifiWave2 but I note that it states that forwarding must be configured on the CAP. So to my newbie questions:-

  1. Is it still sufficient to start with a blank configuration on the AX2, and add all interfaces to a bridge together with a DHCP client on the bridge for configuration purposes? (I intend the WAP and its clients to obtain IP addresses, gateway, etc., from the master DHCP server on the AX3 router)

  2. Can the WifiWave2 configuration on the AX2 be done manually or is it necessary to use CAPSMAN? (There is no ap-bridge mode in WifiWave2)

  3. If using CAPSMAN on WifiWave2, is it still necessary to restart the AX2 with a reset button in order to pick up the CAP configuration?

Apologies if my ignorance of the issues has made my questions unintelligible, but I will be grateful for any help in configuring a satellite WAP when using WifiWave2.

Many thanks,
Renfrew

1 yes
2 yes can be done manually
3 if you want to use capsman, can also be done through reset configuration ( there is an option there for caps mode) but at least version 7.10 (caps mode was added in 7.9 for AX devices but that version has too much wifi issues, so 7.10).

For limited number of ap, do it manually. Much easier.
Same as you did on AX3, only change frequencies.

Thank you.

Given there is no ap-bridge mode in WifiWave2, is that now irrelevant for this use case?

How are ax3 and ax2 going to be connected ?
Wired or wireless ?

In wireless case it will be a bit more complicated since there is indeed no 4 way address mode in wifiwave2.

Sorry, I should have stated the connection between AX2 and AX3 will be by ethernet.

It appears that, under WifiWave2, multiple clients of the AX2 WAP will all pick up IP addresses, routing information, etc. Hence there is now no need for ap-bridge mode?

Nope.

Single bridge
Dhcp client on bridge
Create wifi interfaces
All interfaces to bridge
Done.

Confusion resolved and now looking straightforward.

Thank you very much.
