hAP be3 Media questions (why not be2 when it has internal antenas?)

Hello, recently there was anounced new device. hAP be3 Media. My question is:

hAP ac2 (internal antenas)

hAP ac3 (external antenas)

hAP ax2 (internal antenas)

hAP ax3 (external antenas)

hAP be3 (internal antenas ???)

so why is it not called hAP be2 when it has internal antenas only? Will we get some hAP be4 with external antenas? Why this change in naming scheme? Maybe someone from mikrotik will be able to explain? Thank you.

btw. from public information it looks to be really great. I can’t wait to replace my hAP ac2 where storage is very limited.

maybe because specs?
The 3 series has also always had better specs.

I think the intended difference between the “2” and “3” models is not “internal vs external antennas” but more a difference in capabilities and performance. “2” is more the low-end and “3” the higher end home router.

The reason why antennas are now internal could be to satisfy requirements in some countries, like 6GHz not being allowed outdoor and measures are to be taken to prevent abuse of 6GHz APs for outdoor scenarios.

Why https://mikrotik.com/product/hap_ax_s hAP ax S is named "S" not "2"?

I am only referring to the list of models in the starting post, of course MikroTik has lots of models and lots of naming schemes.

hap ax 2 was taken. Mirroring 2.....S.

Maybe because SFP port… who knows.

i was just curiouse for this change in naming because design wise it looks like successor of hAP ac 2 is hAP ax2 and now hAP be3 looks to successor of ax2.

This makes sence, thanks for opinion.

Inflation.

Does it really matters what the name is. There is no marketing naming constistency for a long time so IMHO there is no sense in finding hidden agenda.

Agree, in theory, internal antennas should be a "be2". But also agree:

So my only guess was three USB ports. Maybe the L009/RB5009 family is getting external WI-Fi 7 antennas, so skipping a "real" 3 with external antennas in the BE hAP lineup & if so, 3 sounds better than 2. And perhaps the "Media" get replaced with "Pro"/"S" for same model/form-factor with SMAs.

The actual model name for the prototype was beZ, but they printed It in the same font and font size they use for passwords on device stickers, and when they produced the first brochure It was misread as 2 and someone thought to cleverly increase It to 3 for the final version. ..

I agree it is no big deal, i was just curiouse. If is 2 or 3 doesn’t matter. It looks to be great device.

maybe because it got 3 x USB port?

I found it confusing as well, but perhaps it’s because it's a triband router. Perhaps they’ll release a "be2" in the future without the 6GHz band.

Maybe because hAP ax S is like a Hex S with wifi.

AC3 and AX3 was only two band so i am not sure it is related to number of bands. Maybe it is just random

No, that number say that it was chosen in the 3rd iteration of internal MT's discussons
