Hello, recently there was anounced new device. hAP be3 Media. My question is:
hAP ac2 (internal antenas)
hAP ac3 (external antenas)
hAP ax2 (internal antenas)
hAP ax3 (external antenas)
hAP be3 (internal antenas ???)
so why is it not called hAP be2 when it has internal antenas only? Will we get some hAP be4 with external antenas? Why this change in naming scheme? Maybe someone from mikrotik will be able to explain? Thank you.
btw. from public information it looks to be really great. I can’t wait to replace my hAP ac2 where storage is very limited.
I think the intended difference between the “2” and “3” models is not “internal vs external antennas” but more a difference in capabilities and performance. “2” is more the low-end and “3” the higher end home router.
The reason why antennas are now internal could be to satisfy requirements in some countries, like 6GHz not being allowed outdoor and measures are to be taken to prevent abuse of 6GHz APs for outdoor scenarios.
i was just curiouse for this change in naming because design wise it looks like successor of hAP ac 2 is hAP ax2 and now hAP be3 looks to successor of ax2.
Agree, in theory, internal antennas should be a "be2". But also agree:
So my only guess was three USB ports. Maybe the L009/RB5009 family is getting external WI-Fi 7 antennas, so skipping a "real" 3 with external antennas in the BE hAP lineup & if so, 3 sounds better than 2. And perhaps the "Media" get replaced with "Pro"/"S" for same model/form-factor with SMAs.
The actual model name for the prototype was beZ, but they printed It in the same font and font size they use for passwords on device stickers, and when they produced the first brochure It was misread as 2 and someone thought to cleverly increase It to 3 for the final version. ..
