Help Configuring LTE WAN using USB 4G Hotspot on hAP ac2

Hi Mikrotik Community,

I’m having trouble configuring LTE WAN on my new hAP ac2. I have a Netgear AirCard with a working LTE/4G connection connected via USB, which appears to be shown correctly under Tools->Resources->USB. Detect Internet State shows the WAN LTE connection as well as the LAN connection to my PC over ether2. The DHCP server appears to be working correctly, having leased an IP to my PC. I believe DNS is also configured correctly and should be working. Despite this, unfortunately I’ve not been able to establish a WAN connection on my PC.

I’m assuming the issue must be with either the LTE/WAN or routing configuration but I’m new to this and struggling to troubleshoot further. I’ve checked the LTE APN configuration and have tried using both the default settings/profile and the settings shown below, in line with the details given by the SIM provider here: https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/1155220-using-the-internet-after-you-ve-joined-smarty

Please see screenshots below showing my current configuration in RouterOS. If you need any further details to assist, please let me know.

Many thanks in advance for any support you can offer.

I managed to resolve this by:

  1. Reconfiguring the 4G Hotspot to put it into Bridge mode. I had gotten overly focussed on the new hardware and had forgotten to do this.
  2. Adding LTE1 as a WAN interface on the Interface List.

Interestingly/strangely, Windows still reports “No Internet Access”, however it definitely works as I’m posting this on that device now with no other network connections. I’ll troubleshoot/investigate further and update here for posterity if I discover anything. However, if anyone more experienced can identify any issues with any of the above configuration I’d still welcome any feedback to assist with learning. Thanks.
