Help with Initial Configuration of RouterOS on MikroTik hAP ac²

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a MikroTik hAP ac² router and installed RouterOS, but I’m having trouble with the initial setup. I’ve followed the Quick Set guide, but I’m still unable to get internet access through my ISP. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Connected the router to my modem.

  • Accessed the router’s web interface via 192.168.88.1.

  • Selected my country and ISP profile in the Quick Set tab.

  • Configured the wireless settings and set a strong password.

  • Saved the settings and rebooted the router.

Despite these steps, my devices can’t connect to the internet. I suspect I might be missing some crucial configurations. Can anyone provide a detailed step-by-step guide or point out common mistakes that I might be making? Also, are there specific settings for the hAP ac² that I should be aware of?

Any advice or tips from experienced users would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Emily,

Would you kindly open a new terminal, run the command /export file=anynameyouwish and post the newly created file here? That would help us a lot in diagnosing the problem.

One friend of mine is trying to help me with the issue. I will update you soon if it is resolved or not.

Default configuration of your hAP ac2 assumes that ISP is offering “plain” IP connectivity, which means that WAN address is provided to subscribers via DHCP protocol. If your ISP uses something more complex (e.g. PPPoE or using VLAN tags), then configuration of hAP ac2 has to be adjusted. In what way depends both on current config (@TheCat12 already asked you to provide this info), but also on what exactly ISP requires. You should either find that out yourself (contact ISP’s help and ask them) or tell us which ISP (and region, it might be important as well) you’re using and some of forum members might come up with necessary information.
