hEX POE not doing POE

I have a hEX POE that I’ve tried powering with 12vdc and 20vdc and in both cases a 802.3af compliant access point plugged into it doesn’t get power and the port shows waiting for load.

What’s the trick to get a hEX POE to do POE?

802.3af = ~48V, so…

So the POE device doesn’t actually do POE. Thanks for the verification. I’ll return it to Amazon and buy a new router from a company that doesn’t lie to its customers.

If they weren’t going to include a boost converter they shouldn’t have included a 24 volt power supply while claiming to support 802.3af/at PoE output if you need to source your own 48 vdc power supply.

Even when I give it 48vdc it still doesn’t do POE.
I don’t know why they thought it was reasonable to lie to customers.

Maybe more information here ? So are you using separate PoE adapter or you are powering hex poe via another poe switch ?

What is the AP you are trying to plug in ?

Perhaps next time read description before buy. Quote from https://mikrotik.com/product/RB960PGS
It also supports passive PoE input and passive or 802.3af/at PoE output. Ethernet ports 2-5 can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. Less power adapters and cables to worry about! It can power at/af mode B (4,5+)(7,:sunglasses: compatible devices, if 48-57 input voltage is used.

Additionally it is to be noted that it uses Mode B only.
802.3af and at powered devices, if FULLY compliant, should work with both mode A and mode B, but it is not given.

Converting from mode B to mode A is however rather simple (the opposite is not), just for the record:

I am using HEXPoE for a bunch of Omada EAP670 APs and an OC200 controller. Of course I had to replace the original PSU by the 48V PSU. (MT 48POW)
The devices are 802.3at and not af, but af support should work.
So no, the HEXPoe is a great piece of HW.
Of course the datasheet must be considered:

Max out per port output (input 18-30 V) 1 A
Max out per port output (input 30-57 V) 450 mA
Max total out (A) 2 A
