hEX PoE RB960PGS does not power Netgear WAX214

The Netgear WAX214 access point is supposedly an 802.af (I think they mean 802.3af) PoE device.
So I got a hEX PoE (RB960PGS) to power it. The MikroTik supposedly supports 802.3af (and “at” as well).
To my surprise the access point does not turn on. The port status says “waiting for load” and the LED of the respective port flashes red every few seconds.

You need to use a 48-57V power adapter when you need to provide power to 802.3af/at devices. The 24V power supply that comes with your hEX PoE unit is not sufficient. That is clearly documented on the product page.

Oh, I see. Does MikroTik have a recommended one?
I wonder why it doesn’t come with the appropriate power supply though, is a 24V one actually cheaper?

You can’t use a 24V power supply to provide af/at POE…

Mikrotik offers a couple of power supplies (see e.g. MT48-480095-11DG and MT48-570080-11DG), but you can use literally any with suffucient power output.

I guess because in the vast majority of cases these boxes are used to power other Mikrotik branded devices most of which accept Passive PoE, in which case the default 24V power supply is sufficuent.

Exactly my point, why not include one that can?

Yes, but a higher voltage wouldn’t hurt either, right?

Actually it would hurt. Many Mikrotik devices capable of PoE in, can only accept up to 30V power supply. Switch RB260PGS included. I’m guessing that all Mikrotijs (PoE in or not) can run off 24V just fine though.

The device from OP is one hEX PoE [960PGS] ,not the RB260GS(P)
