Hex S 2025 2.5gb performances with SFP

Hello,
Im in the process to upgrade my home network to replace the isp router. I have 2.5gb from FTTH up and 1 down. I don't have a lot of devices since I am in a 430sq ft (40m²) apartment but I have a nas and a pair of thinkcentre tiny. Does the Hex S 2025 can really do 2.5gb with the SFP port? All the discussions I saw talk about the 1gb performance.

I could upgrade if needed to have at least a 2.5gb backbone running

Thanks

Under "Ethernet Test Results" on the hex S (2025) page, the performances with 25 ip filter rules is roughly 1.5Gb/s, and that's the best case scenario.

A better choice for your setup would be a hap ax3, slightly more expensive but that will be able to do 2.6Gb/s in the best case scenario. The real case scenario will likely be edging on 2G/bs. Otherwise a RB5009 could deliver, though it's a more expensive solution.

i would recommend u to get a getting a rb5009upr if you plan on putting up accesspoints for wifi around the house, if u dont need wifi, id grab a rb5009ug (you have huge room to grow your network after that, except you dont have PoE from it to power AP's, cameras etc).
Also buying an ONT (or a media converter) and having a RJ45 connection between ur isps ONT and ur router is also not bad, the sfps itself run incredibly hot (Gpon APC transcievers).
Otherwise if u want an all in one solution, for a 2.5gigabit solution, maybe try and claw out a hAP bn^3?

Skip the Hex S and buy RB5009. Thank me later. 5009 will serve like easy that traffic, and other devices like AX3 and Hex S will be bottleneck for that speed.

The 5009 also has 2.5G copper native, and an uncrippled SFP+ that can do 10G . . .

From what I gather, I need to keep my ISP router since there is way to replace it. There is a setting in the router config to put it in bridge mode, which works very well and is well documented on the forums.

The router responsibilities are then handed over to another device. I already have a fiber ONT, but they are connected via optical fiber.

Anyway, I’ll get the RB5009 instead. Not sure if the L009UiGS would be able to push 2.5Gb either?

Would the RB4011iGS+RM be a viable alternative?

I plan to get a switch at a later date (CSS318-16G-2S+IN probably), but I don't have the budget to get two devices in the same month.

The rb4011 should probably be considered obsolete. The l009 is nowhere near adequate in terms of routing performance.

The ax3 can actually push 2.5Gbps, but only in fasttrack.

The rb5009 is the appropriate device for your use case. If its somewhat higher price is not a turn-off, you'll be much happier with it.

The L009 is a low power device, you can consider it a RB750GR3 (hex), but with more ports. Maybe 1 Gbit on lucky days and with fast path only.

It has the same cost of a RB5009 while being a more dated device, if you can find an used one, it would be fine, but buying it new wouldn't be very smart.

Personally i wouldn't bother with l009UiGS especially because everything tends to bend around the 2.5gigabit routing environment, rb5009 while costly its a real piece of machinery that you get, and it runs cool, is passively cooled, very powerful cpu, has a decent amount of ram and 1 gigabyte of storage (for packages and firmware upgrades/files).
