hi. I setup hotspot for about 200 user and it work fine in ROS 6 but after update to V7 hotspot crash. when user successfully login and after about 1 minutes they disconnect and cant see any page involve logging page or status page. But if I use IP Binding it work nice and don’t disconnect.
There are many changes on the Hotspot between versions 6 and 7…
When you use the IP Binding you bypass the user from the hotspot so it is normal that the user stays connected…
I would suggest you review all the configuration…
exactly same behavior on my side (tested also with ROS 7.2rc3)
I also opened a ticket at mikrotik - no solution till now.

By the way - I disabled hotspot service (so it is a basic router) and everything works fine and stable - so it has to be an issue with the hotspot package.
same… hope to fix this issue in the next release.

Which version of v7 ?
There are quite some changes in 7.2rc4. Latest now is rc6.
7.2rc5 also doesn’t address this problem - I could try rc6 but I don’t think that there is any help because I didn’t got response to my ticket!
Just checked changelog - even in rc6 and rc7 no changes to hotspot package.
… just downgraded to ROS 6.49.5 - and hotspot seems to work.
Therefor I can exclude settings, hardware, network related issues and so on. It is only verion of ROS respective version of hotspot-package.

you are not alone we also already file a support ticket and MT was able to reproduce the issue, our case is we setup hotspot with external AP after login the client is working for quite sometime and goes haywire, from client we can ping the ip address of the AP but not the MT router side, this affects all v7.x including the latest stable 7.2, we even try 7.3beta27 as per the support suggestion and still the problem still there. we can reproduce this so easily on RB4011 and RB5009 respectively
Thanks a lot for the feedback - so Mikrotik could reproduce this issue on their own equipment? Then I have to wait until a solution is done by MT.
I was only scared because I didn’t got any feedback by Mikrotik (expect of “we can’t see any failure on your setup and can’t reproduce it”)
Yes that what they say they were able to reproduce the issue, the sad part is there’s no commitment time for the said fix, since we do have a workaround i think for now it’s better than nothing, at least this was queued on their list.
We are working on the fix for the particular issue. Hopefully it will be fixed shortly.

Which routerboard were you using for these 200 users? And which version of RouterOS 6? I have an RB750gr3 that works fine in v7.2.rc3 for ~20 users, but when I put it to work with ~170, the same situation occurs as in your case.
I’m planning to buy RB5009 for hotspot. Is this still a problem in v7?
basic hotspot + queue is working properly now starting v7.3beta37
trying on beta40 still disconnect after a while

don’t know if it make a difference, i failed to mentioned that i have external AP connected in MT poe port on RB5009
Seems to be solved in 7.4 Beta 4 or 5
