Looking at v6.43.8 QuickFig form, it seems impossible to specify a VLAN tag for a PPPoE client.
Though this can be configured with WebFig or alternate means, would you qualify this as a welcomed addition to QuickFig ?
To me beeing able to set this through QuickFig is a very nice feature as VLAN tagging is required by several ISP (Orange comes to mind).
With QuickFig, it really has to be “Less is More”.
VLAN is not for total beginners and those should spend some time figuring out RouterOS. There are plenty of topic threads in this forum discussing VLANs, including many miss-conceptions (about both ROS and VLAN).
The next request that might come is: can VLANs for VoIP/IPTV/… be added to QuickFig? Why can’t I select arbitrary set of ether ports to the VLAN ID? Why can’t I configure IPTV forwarding ove WiFi? Can VLAN IDs actually be discovered, my ISP told me correct ID but I forgot to write it down?
An other way to to look at this feature request is “how many ISP require a PPPoE Client to run without any VLAN tag ?”.
If most or a large part of ISP community requires such tagging, then assisting users to dump ISP hardware in favor of Mikrotik hardware is a smart move.
In my opinion, materializing this move within QuickFig forms is a very interesting implementation.
I also agree with you that as soon as you get a working form for data services, you’ll get people asking for IPTV, for VoIP, VoD or whatever.
Life is hard anyway, so … ))
Jokes aside, I wonder what BT, Deutsch Telekom and so on currently require for data services from PPPoE Clients.
If they also require a VLAN tag, then adding a field to specify this should be smart, IMHO.
