Hi Dear,
i have configured a “protected-routerboot enable” device, but i forgot about this option, and i have tryed to force netinstall via reset button and poweron the device.
Now the device reboot continuosly and is impossible to use it.
What i can do?
Have you tried resetting it to factory defaults by holding the reset button, powering up, and releasing it about 5 seconds later?
I’m having the same issue but Netinstall does not work. I tell netinstall to “Install” the packages but after i press install it sits there for about 10 seconds like its doing something then tells me the router is “Ready”. It doesn’t reboot or anything.
But maybe your netinstall will work so for instructions follow this guide, it helped me quite a bit.
Get Netlnstall tool
Get RouterOS Upgrade package for the exact RouterOS version you had before.
Disable PC Firewall
Connect PC to Port 1 on Mikrotik
Disable all other network interfaces on the PC - LAN, Wireless, Virtualbox
Set static IP of 192.168.88.3, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.88.1 on PC
Run NetInstall
Select “Net Booting”
Mark “Boot Serve Enabled”
Set Client IP address to 192.168.88.1
Keep reset pressed while powering on
Keep holding the reset pin till a beep sounds. Release immediately
Router should show up in Netinstall’s list
Browse for the folder with unzipped RouterOS images
Select appropriate RouterOS package
Click on “Install”
Netinstall doesn’t works on it!!!
According to the wiki, if you have enabled protected-bootloader mode you need to hold the reset button for a certain amount of time to restore the ability to netboot, though this will completely wipe the NAND including your config
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:RouterBOARD_settings#Protected_bootloader
With default settings you can do this by holding the reset button for more than 20 seconds after power on, it may take some time to format the NAND (5 mins or so) so give it a try and then it should be able to netboot.
If it’s rebooting constantly it might already be trying to netboot. the netboot program can be a bit tricky, I’ve found the following tends to help
1: Disable all other network interfaces on your PC
2: Configure your PC’s network interface with a static IP like 192.168.88.1
3: Disable windows firewall
The issue was the computer! Changed it an now it works correctly!
