How to use SFP port on Hex 2025

I have tried to use the SFP port on my new Hex 2025 router for WAN input. Is there any special SFP module needed to work for the Hex 2025?

So, we need a little bit more information, what did you try ? Which modules did you try? What are you trying to achieve? Did you check compatibility list on Mikrotik website? If you are using SFP+ modules, you need to set speed manually to 1 or 2.5G.

I would like to know if I can use the sfp port for WAN access. I aptempted to use a (10Gtek) SFP+ module. I use these with no issues on my CCR2004 1G-12 S+ Router and with my CRS 317-1G-16S+ along with my other Mikrotik equipment. I have had no issues using the 10Gtek modules.

I don’t see any potential problem in using SFP+ port as WAN port with your new hex S. According to the Mikrotik compatibility site all of their official SFP+ modules (except S+RJ10) are supported by your device but you must manually set port speed to 2.5G

I’m using it with my fiber 2.5 D / 1.0U Gbps connection. The ONT provide me a 2.5G ethernet end, with a base-T module it works without problem!

am sorry but I am at a loss as to how to change the speed setting. Can you point me to any information on this?

So, in winbox, under “Interfaces” menu you select “Interface” tab and you select your desired interface.

After you opened your desired interface you go to “Ethernet” tab and you will see check box marked “Auto Negotiation”.

Uncheck that and after you done that you will see that you can now change port speed with a lot of different options. For SFP+ fiber you should select 2.5G baseX if i’m not mistaken but that also depends of what is on the other side… Maybe there is only 1G available.

Settings must be the same on the both sides or link will not be established.

I followed your instructions but all I get on the HexS is (interface not active). I have verified the settings on my fiber switch and checked the LC cable for connectivity on another device. I didn’t know this would be such a problem.

If I were to forget the fiber connection and use an ethernet module on both ends would this work?

Maybe you should state the exact SFP model you are trying to use and what is on the "other side".

Ethernet SFP (and SFP+) should be avoided as much as possible on passive cooled devices as they are a source of heat.

Maybe you could do (it depends on distance) with a DAC cable (which is IMHO the "cleanest" solution for short distances).

All my sfp+ modules are (10 GTEK AXS85-192-M3) I have it connected on a 6” DAC cable (H! Fiber CAB-10GSFP-PO.25M)

I hav a port on my CRS 317-1G-16S+ fiber switch. I have port9 on this switch setup as 2.5 gig

The switch is working on port 9 as a 2.5g connection on LC fiber. I just can’t get the SFP interface to go active. Can someone review my config and give me an idea what is wrong.

What did you set on your switch ? On Hex you have 1G BaseT so 1 gig connection. Did you try to set 2.5G baseX on both ends ?

I doubt an SFP+ module will work in SFP port.

I have decided to not use the SFP port. I will put this router back in my storage and concentrate on my total fiber network. Thank you all for the ideas and help.
