While attempting to make sense of bridges I was resetting addreses on VLAN interfaces and suddenly I got disconnected and now it refuses connections. The interface I connect to on the router is not participating on anything I’m doing, it’s just there solely to have a safeguard for lockouts., i.e; it’s dedicated for management with a static IP address.

My configuration of the switch is probably wrong, Mikrotik is the only vendor where I struggle with this but regardless it should affect the other interface.

There’s one thing that came to mind. The safety and one of the bridge’s VLAN interfaces have addresses on the same subnet. However, this was true as well before moving that VLAN from VLAN on ethernet interface to VLAN on bridge interface. Access through MAC addressing still works.
Could you tell me where did I screw up?
Thanks!
Thanks chechito, ( heh, that sounds funny–is that Spanish? )
But that’s actually the source of my confusion.
I’ve gone through all of that, plus the old docs. There are at least four management tools but not one is fully, and non-ambiguously documented. I always and the same amount of answers and more questions. On the other hand, in VyOS, for example, there’s only the CLI over SSH for management (which you have to set up) and that’s it. No apps, no web, no frills, but no issues setting up complicated and newer things either, e.g; L2TPv3 and DMVPN.
I’m just saying, it couldn’t hurt if Mikrotik put on pause the social thing they’re doing and hired just for a day a member of the FreeBSD team and see what they learn from them; they (FreeBSD) have outstanding documentation. I don’t even use FreeBSD but I’ve applied their docs in other places as well as the FreeBSD system I was dealing at the moment, or course.
Hopefully, I’ll manage though. L2 but no L3 access seems like a (mis-)routing thing. Maybe if I VRF the emergency NIC so it doesn’t conflict but I’m unsure how or if I’ll end up isolating the NIC from the host itself because if you’ve gone through the VRF docs you’ll understand.
