Ideas for ultimate road warrior solution

Hi all! Hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas!
I’m looking for some tips and advice for a little project I’m thinking about. Idea is a MikroTik/RouterOS based solution that can connect either via mobile network (4G/LTE) or a Wi-Fi network, such as at a Hotel (and ideally also via ethernet). Regardless if internet connectivity is via mobile or Wi-Fi (or ethernet, if achievable), it would automatically connect to my home network via WireGuard, so any connected devices (if I could also connect one device via ethernet, that would be great as well) would have access to resources there and all internet traffic would also be routed via the home network, so that any blocks on the guest network would be effectively bypassed. Normally it would live in my car, but it should be easy to bring and use anywhere. I guess I would need two radios, so I can connect to a network via Wi-Fi and have an AP at the same time. IDEALLY I would in other words need a small device with two Wi-Fi radios, two ethernet ports (at least) and an LTE modem, but I guess the closest neat real world solution possible would be something like the wAP LTE kit, together with a mAP lite. BUT, this solution would be a bit pricey and the budget is really tight. One idea would be a 4G USB modem, connected to a HAP for example, but these USB modems doesn’t seem to be particularly cheap these days (given they’re only modems). Another idea would be a (relatively cheap) 4G router, let a HAP connect to that via Wi-Fi and use a mAP lite for the AP, but this wouldn’t be very neat or practical. Any ideas, thoughts or comments are welcome.
All the best!

The Audience works well, it has 2 ethernet ports, and important 3 Wi-Fi interface, so one can join another network and still have both 2.4 and 5 for yourself. They make an LTE version of it. Kinda bulky but powerful. Skip the mAP. That’s be the best choice IMO.

Otherwise, you can use a wAPac with LTE, if you bridge 5Ghz or 2Ghz to another network, you’d still have one band for local use. No USB, so need LTE kit version with wAP.

If you need external hotspot, either use older hAPac2*, or the newer hAPax3. Note: ****NOT newer hAPax2 which doesn’t have USB.

Multiple wifi are used.
VPN can be added and also script that auto tries wifi until one works and stays on that.

Hi! Thank you for the very good responses:) Sorry for the late reply, New Year’s and a few viruses got in the way..

Yes! The wAP ac LTE Kit seems like the perfect device for the job, thank you for the tip! Together with advertised resistance to temperature and weather. A bit above my budget right now (harsh times), but that’ll be what I’ll go for as soon as my wallet permits.

Very good thread! I’ve just sort of scrolled through it for now, but I can tell there’s a lot of useful things in it and will read it thoroughly very soon.

Guess I’ll return with configuration specifics when the time comes:)

I use it for the same purpose. The perfect device for the job, go for it!
