I just got my first mikrotik router the other day (rb5009) and Im trying to set it up and my setup requires that I have my coaxial connected ISP modem switched into bridge mode. But my problem is when I connect to my router via ethernet with my isp modem in bridge mode there is no longer any internet. Without bridge mode the internet works fine. I’ve been researching and haven’t found a video or any explantion to solve what my issue is Im hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction
Hmm odd indeed Ill follow your post and see if we can figure something out thanks for sharing. I also wonder if not having a wireless access point yet would be causing that what do you think?
please do not mark my answer as a solution, because it is marked now as “Solved”.
FYI:
i have unplugged all my “sub-routers” and other equipments under my RB5009 and it is still not working if my ISP modem in bridge mode. so i do not think so it is due to another Access Point within LAN.
for me the problem could be more like:
the only difference when we switch the ISP modem to bridge mode:
we got a public IP instead of an internal as before and maybe our NAT rule should be changed, but i have tried to change the masquarade to src-nat with public IP address, but still didn’t work.
i have got a tip that maybe a DNS setting is not good, but in this case i think i should be able to ping 8.8.8.8 without the name translation from a domain via DNS..
so i am really lost where the issue coming from, maybe a Mikrotik Ninja should know it quickly, hope some expert will read the post soon and help us.
ah ok i didn’t realize I was marking it as solved, I unchecked it now and yea I got some help on another forum the guy was saying to copy my ip address details from my isp modem then switch it over to bridge mode and input the details into the router after it is switched over. but I have to wait for my wifi access point to get here tmrw before I mess with this again can’t be without internet lol
I know that sometimes you have to wait some time befor you get an IP address behind a cable modem. What you can try is duplicate the MAC address of a working device to your MikroTik. Or just turn off the modem for 5 minutes, and (while the MikroTik is connected) turn the modem back on.
