LHG5 vs SXT LITE5 AC

Basically I wanna add decent wireless connectivity to any one of my wired mikrotik routers. example CRS125 / HEX…

Will any of the above work? Also, how do I choose between the two? What are the differences? I’ve only ever used CAP2N, controlled by capsman. Can the above two work in place of cap2n?

Where would you like to connect, how far is the other end?

LHG = bigger, doesn’t support AC technology, can reach much further if the AP is good
SXT = smaller, more compact and supports 802.11ac mode

Please tell us what you will use it for, so we can suggest the best solution

i intend to use as an AP controlled via capsman, with connectivity via ethernet.

for phones, mobile devices… and to locate it indoors.. can these be used indoors? or must it be exclusively outdoors?

i’ve tried hap lite, cap2n and the wireless strength seem to be quite weak.. if its the device/lack of antenna at all to blame… but im not very well versed with wireless networking

so perhaps do share advice.

You need license level 4 at least. Those devices have only level 3. See these:

Everywhere you are lacking the signal indoors, use one of these http://routerboard.com/RB941-2nD or ac version http://routerboard.com/RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT if you need.

If you plan to interconnect devices wirelessly do not forget that you need devices with similar wireless output power - wireless communications are 2 directional, not only your your CRS125 need to see your other device, but also other way around.

This is why if you use wireless only for mobile phone there are no point of having more powerful device than hAP lite/hAP, phone will be the weak link anyways.

Conclusion:

  1. LHG 5 more powerful for long distances
  2. but SXT Lite 5 ac is smaller
  3. LHG have best noise immunity
  4. 802.11ac is good, when you have Gigabit Ethernet
  5. SXT Lite 5 ac good up to 3-5 km distance
  6. LHG good for >5 km distances
