Map Lite - Cant get this thing to work!

I just bought a Map lite and I can’t get this thing to work. Out of the box (brand new… apparently), it doesn’t broadcast an AP and when i plug in an ethernet cable into it Windows constantly shows it as cable unplugged. Im trying this WinBox softwarte with the MAC address but it also doesn’t find anything, not unexpected since it shows cable unplugged.

I’ve tried 2 phones (for wifi), 2 ethernet cables, 1 USB NIC and 1 Realtek integrated NIC on Windows 11 and nothing sees this device.

See the below video of the LED’s. Can someone advise before I send this back to the supplier?

The issues you’re experiencing with the MikroTik mAP Lite could stem from a few potential causes. Here’s a troubleshooting guide to help identify and resolve the problem:

  1. Hardware Check
-Power Supply: Ensure the mAP Lite is receiving adequate power. If you’re using a USB adapter, try a different adapter with at least 1A output.
-LED Behavior: Compare the LED activity to show power and other interfaces.

  2. Reset to Default
Guide to Perform a Reset: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/24805498/Reset+Button

  3. WinBox Connection
If the device doesn’t broadcast an AP or show connectivity:
-Use WinBox in MAC mode (not IP mode) to connect directly via Ethernet.
-Ensure your PC’s NIC is set to Auto-Negotiate for speed and duplex.
-Try WinBox on a different PC or OS to rule out driver issues.
-Disable firewalls or antivirus software temporarily, as they might block WinBox discovery.

  4. Ethernet Cable Issue

  5. Check Network Configuration
-Set your PC to a static IP (e.g., 192.168.88.2/24) and try accessing the mAP Lite at its default IP (192.168.88.1) via a browser or WinBox in IP mode.

  6. Firmware or Boot Loop Issue
-If the device appears stuck in a boot loop (frequent LED restarts):
-Connect via NetInstall to reinstall the RouterOS firmware: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/24805390/Netinstall

  7. Warranty or Replacement
-Speak to your Supplier or Distributor

Hey @muaazteladia, welcome to the forum! Great to see more knowledgeable and dedicated people joining us. Have a nice weekend!

Are you accessing it from within the same subnet? In default config it’s IP will be 192.168.88.1/24- make sure your PC is using something in the same range (192.168.88.1 through 192.168.88.255) when you try to access it initially.

Make sure it is properly reset.
Out of the box it should broadcast an SSID.
That’s where you need to connect to for further config since default ether will be considered WAN and blocked for entry by firewall.

Errm. NOT !
Couple of things in that response which are blatantly wrong if you know your stuff.

If power supply is not sufficient, the thing will not power on or start resetting after a while. Simple.
I’ve got a couple of those devices, been there, done that.

On itself a good recommendation but not specific enough for mAPLite.

WRONG ! Default you can not access mAP Lite from ether port. Firewall on the device will prevent you doing so.

See above.

Connecting via which medium ??
Don’t answer cable !

Could be but OP did not mention anything about funny led sequences which makes me believe even more all of this answer is coming from some automated script.

That’s at least a correct answer.
