Mikrotik 4G LTE recommendation

Apologies for the FAQ but it’s often quicker to ask those in the know that plough through a long product list. Friends are building a holiday premises in Croatia with multiple guest bedrooms. They can “only” get 4G Plus LTE at the premises with 250Mbps download. Not bad! I’ve recommended they install MikroTik RBcAPL-2nD (cAP lite) in the guest bedrooms because we’re going to have to throttle guest access down to prevent them using up the limited 300GB bandwidth per month. So Wi-Fi 4 is more than enough.

But I’ve had zero experience of the Mikrotik 4G LTE range. The ISP supplied model/router is a portable version so we’re probably looking at a Huawei B525 but would love to stick with Mikrotik kit throughout. I like the idea of mounting an external receiver to ensure we get best signal. A modem will be fine as we’re going to be using PoE switches blended with those access points aside from the owners area where we’ll go up to Wi-Fi 5.

So a recommendation for a Mikrotik to do the job of the B525 would be much appreciated… remember got to handle 250Mbps 4G Plus.

You should check on what Bands and agregation this 250Mbps are exist, and then you can compare what device modem / lte module support them, You must prevent situation like “phone have x mbps but MikroTik have slower speed”.

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try and see if my friends can find out the bands used by the Crotia ISP - they already asked the vendor to recommend a more powerful model/router than the Alcatel portable device they normally ship. Already moved onto the B535 after doing more research.

Will do! I really do love Mikrotik kit. Just bought the mAP Lite mainly out of interest to see how good it was and to use in the lab as it’s functionally the same due to the wonderful RouterOS. How tiny!!

Bear in mind that current SXT and LHG models are limited to 100Mbps ethernet port.

See https://mikrotik.com/products/group/lte-products?filter&s=c&f=[%22gigabit%22]#! for a list of LTE with Gigabit

Hope that helps
Nick

Does MikroTik have any LTE modems that can handle 250Mbps? If not, I’ll stop looking :frowning:

Currently, in reality only one… https://mikrotik.com/product/chateau_lte12 + external antena mimo 2x2
and we can discus about r11e-lte6 with 2CA at B3+B6 when you have perfect signal level and both band’s are @20Mhz… + 1GbE port of course.

About ROS7b9 we have stable LM940/960 in MBIM mode.
About ROS7beta - he should support new line of Quectel EM/EG 12/16/18 modules - I hope that 5G too… but currently only EG12 and EM12-G works.

Nice looking bit of kit but sadly about twice the price of the Huawei B535 in the UK :frowning: Shame they don’t have a plain 4G LTE modem.

Chatea have got modem on PCB, this is not plug in/out, like socket, means he is soldered. You can watch photo from inside: https://mikrotikon.pl/mikrotik-chateau-pierwsze-urzadzenie-z-lte12-i-routeros-v7/
MikroTik for shure publish in future new lte modules, devices with 1GbE port etc. but we must wait for that at new MUM.

And I do a new graph who compare options:

Tell your friends your ISP offers 1 tb of traffic for 30-35 EUR/month, check A1 site for prepaid service.
