Hello:
I atempt to install a mikrotik in our CPD. I attempt to install mikrotik 3.11 in a vmware esx server but mikrotik don’t have drivers for a LSI Logic or BUS Logic adapter.
¿How I can put these drivers in the kernel? ¿It’s posible?
Thanks.

no, it is not possible to run ROS on this version of vmware. It is not possible to include custom drivers.
It does run under VMware Server (the old GSX)…
But you should try and install it under VMware Server and import it to ESX…
why don’t you switch to a ide-vmdk? that should do the trick
ESX server does not have IDE of any kind, as this is answer from vmware themselves (as far as you can read in the forums, here) and as you look around the internet, you will see reports that ESX does not support ide, just SCSI
absolutely right, despite this is a design-bug imho
I also found out that there is no IDE support… have been converting about 20 virtualmachines the past days!
Hurray for VMware Converter! but this will not work for RouterOS!
Hello!
Have anyone find the way to install RouterOS on ESX?
BR
Not possible…
Mikrotik is IDE or SATA only, and ESX is SCSI only,
so just not compatible…
what you could do, but i would recommend…
install a small linux with xen enabled.
enable paravirtualisation in ESX if you have ESX 3.5 for better performance
and then install Mikrotik in XEN virtual machines in the ESX VM
not ideal, but at least you now have DRS and so…
Did you try yourself? it’s a fully working solution?
Dear Friends,
Install MK 2.9/3.2 as a IDE virtual mode not the SCASII mode.
ENJOY & VMWare is Very Stable.
Good Luck
You are talking about VMware Server and we are talking about VMware ESX! not the same!
I also run alot of RouterOS in VMware Server and VMware Fusion. But still not ESX!
ESXi V4 provides IDE support. Problem solved…
Cool, upgrading my 3.5’s then…
hmm, my positive reaction was preliminary. ESXi v4 is 64 bit only ![]()
Yes, and not even every 64-Bit CPU, it has to have hardware virtualization features (and have them activated)…
Does RouterBoard44 PCI 4 port ethernet adapter works with ESXi 4?
Or any working driver?
I have just installed 4.2 on my ESXi 4.0 server.
Set HD emulation to IDE and installed perfectly
Installed with 1 E1000 adaptor. Configured ip (public) and gw from console - seems fine. But no traffic comes through. Cant ping - nothing in arp table etc.
Tried winbox from another VM on same VM switch - no connection either via mac addr or IP.
Added 2nd virtual E1000 adaptor on other VMSwitch - and RouterOS saw it straight away. But still no traffic through.

E1000 is broken in your version, in v4.3 it will be fixed
When is 4.3 due?
