Kindly provide a pointer to the possible cause and solution to this problem. Whenever I try to boot a mikrotik box, i get the error message
Loading system with initrd
Uncompressing Linux…Ok, booting the kernel
pivot_root error: 00000002
ERROR: Could not mount disk!
Please attach it somewhere else.
That’s the exact error message.
Looking forward to your assistance to resolve this.
Although Im by NO means skilled with Mikrotik, this error in linux traditionally means your hard disk/controller isnt found by the mikrotik OS? Therefore there is nowhere to mount the root filesystem after initrd is done?
my -Guess- is that your hard disk controller/or drive is not supported?
yes, you are right. phemlapot - can you clarify what is your system type and what motherboard/hdd you use? can you try to reinstall the HDD? does the HDD boot on another PC?
I have been using the HDD with Mikrotik installed before we had a power problem which damaged the motherboard of the system. So we just got another system and I expected it to work after swapping the HDD with the new one that came with it.
How do you mean…reinstall the HDD? The HDD gives the same error message on another PC.
Thanks normis, I created a new CD and installed. It worked though after changing the IDE cable and the CD ROM that came with the HP system. I asked it to keep the old configuration. When I was now able to boot Mikrotik, I had to log in using the default admin/password=enter. None of the old configurations were there! I did a show/print interface and didn’t find any of the ip address. Are the routes gone?
I hope not. How can i restore the back up. pls advice
…unfortunately i did a CD install as directed. I’m glad i retained my license but none of the configuration which is sad. i remember creating a backup at some point, but not recently. how do i restore the backup i created?
