I bought this due to the overwhelming reviews on how good of a product it is, while being warned setup may be difficult. I have a buddy who works on Ambiquiti so he gave it a go, to no avail. I am trying to set this up as an outside bridge + ap to my home network so I can livestream from the park behind my house. I have following countless guides online and I can’t seem to figure it out. Does anyone have any pointers to get it to do what I need please?
Can you better describe what you want/need to do?
You want the sxtsq5 to be an access point?
And connected to your home network via ethernet?
Or a station (client) connected to your home wifi?
the router is on the other side of the house to where the sxtsq5 will be stationed. ideally it can teather to my home network wirelessly, and broadcast a reliable signal another 50-100m to where the park is. hopefully the only cable is the power adapter to keep it on
The sxtsq5 has a rather directional antenna, with a beam width declared as 23°.
Or you would need two of them "back to back".
In any case on the AP side you would have a rather narrow area covered.
A sketch of the house and park and expected placement of the device(s) marked on it might help in giving you some advice for more suited devices.
You need either a single device with omnidirectional antennas (but covering with it 50-100 m radius is not so easy), or two directional devices mounted back to back but in any case at least the AP side needs to have a much wider angle, like - only as an example - the wAP Ax has 180° wide beam declared with some 90-120° wide beam with full power.
But two wAP Ax are roughly 2*89=178 US$ list price that is 3x the cost of a SXTsq 5 ac (65 US$).
BTW the SXTsq 5 ac has only 5 GHz radio, so ALL your outside wireless devices would need to be 5 GHz compatible, while a dual band AP is (IMHO) needed.
After stepping it off, it’s about 20m from router to where the sxtsq5 will be. The plan was to use my Sony fx3 and maybe a7iv if the network could handle two angles. I think there’s always a way to rtmp into obs remotely somehow
I do have an Eero mesh system on the unsafe wall of the house facing the park. Don’t know if that helps but then the AP would need to be inside. There’s about 20-30m from the house to the park
The 20-30 meters from house to park won't likely be a big issue for a directional AP, after all it remains outside and there is free los (line of sight).
No idea what the Eero mesh system is supposed to do or how it can be integrated in your new setup, the points are:
your new AP to cover the park needs to be a directional device but with a not-so-narrow beam, for the reasons already exposed it should IMHO be dual band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz [1].
it needs somehow to be connected to your main router/switch, preferrably via an ethernet cable, otherwise you need another wi-fi device set as station/client, better if inside the house, that connects wirelessly to your router (or other AP(s) wi-fi.
the external wall (facing the park of your house) is the bigger obstacle for wi-fi to the park, the "right" approach is putting on it an outdoor AP.
[1] Possible candidates among Mikrotik products (as I see it):
wAP Ax $89.00
mANTBox ax 15s $179.00
NetMetal Ax (with suitable external antenna(s)) $169.00+cost of the antenna(s)
Could I ethernet something into the eero on the inside of the wall facing the park and have that communicate with the sxtsq5 mounted outside the house, facing the park?
