Ideally wires. If wires are out of question, then point-to-point connections, preferably on different frequency band (e.g. if available bands are 2.4GHz and 5GHz and there are some 2.4GHz-only clients, use 5GHz band for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint connections and 2.4GHz to offer access to clients).

Considering how poorly Mikrotik WAPs handle multiple connections… Especially how the 2.4 radios don’t do well with it…

I would almost recommend using the 2.4 as the back haul.

Infact… When I travel… I connect my hAP AC2s 2.4 radio to the nearby wifi. Then use the 5ghz for my devices.

Why? And more important, can you explain what mesh is according to you?
What are the requirements?
