After some bad experiments my RB750GL do not boot … Last time when it works i set
Routerboard–>Settings–>try ethernet once then nand and set
boot protocol → DHCP.
So when i try to recover RB750 with netinstall procedure he dosn’t appear at Netinstall screnn…
After some reseatch i found what Netinstall utility working at BOOTP mode, but my Tik at DHCP mode…
Can i run Netinstall at DHCP boot mode?
I can boot my Tik with LinuxBOX server with DHCP boot mode, and put him vmlinux.elf, containing at netinstall-611.exe, but how continue recovery procedure and reinstall RouterOS ?
You should be able to boot the RB into netinstall by keeping the reset button pressed until the power lights goes off.
Quote from quick guide:
In case you wish to boot the device from network, for example to use MikroTik Netinstall, hold the RESET button of the device when starting it until the LED light turns off, and RB will start to look for Netinstall servers.
Thanx bro for answering.
I know how to boot device from network. My device are booting up, but using for that DHCP boot protocol insted bootp. (I discovery it using by paket analyzing) Netinstall program uses BOOTP protocol. So, when i booting device from network (by method discribed inhttp://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Netinstall) it do no boot, cause protocol mismatch (BOOTP!=DHCP). I used DHCP boot option when i try start debian linux on Tik…
is any update on-topic ?
i previously had similar issues still unresolved(briked devices left in “dhcp” boot mode).
would be nice if netinstall had both modes to pick when you start netinstall server itself ie another checkbox near “Boot Server Enabled” under “Net Booting” button.
weird idea. first it require identical device(which isn’t case. i had several mikrotik, but not really idential, atleast at home), second you had to boot OpenWRT, which isn’t really achievable in that case too.
is any idea how recover such devices? personally i have old 750, formerly demoted to AP and fat version of RB2011 and while 750 had not much use anymore, rb2011 would be handy for me.
any way to use console port to bring devices to life ? if so, how ? as i read wiki, it allow to change netboot mode from console too, among other settings.
personally i didn’t have com-port to use CISCO-style serial port which rb2011 have and usb-com donlges performance and compatibility look uncertain for me, but heard that USB-port can be used for similar purposes ? is that true ? what cabel do i need, then ?
any else ideas ? aside soldering flash chip(cuz i quite old and my imperfect hands not good for soldering stuff anymore(unless there was post-WWIII-apocalypse-necessity or something)).
p.s.
personally think that options for netboot, unsuported by native netboot utility - should be ommited/removed from bootloader/routerboot settings options(so “bootp” remain mandatory default). just opinion.
but having both “dhcp” and “bootp” supported by netinstall - would be even cooler.
