New potential user

I was recommend to the site and really like whats offered. I’m just a normal home user. I got my Cisco CCNA just for fun but havent been able to use it out of the classroom. I really like the idea of being able to apply what I learned on my home network.

Basically what I would like is a router with Gigabit Ethernet and wireless (atleast b/g but n would be nice).

Heres the wierd part. I’m in a house with about 7 people. We are all going to move out in August and go our separate ways. One roommate needs a router once he leaves and wants to buy a linksys wrt54gl. I’d like to get one of the mikrotik ones. Since none of the cheaper mikrotik ones can really do both do you think it would be a good choice to use the RB750g for the router and connect the wrt54gl for people that need wifi. When I move out I’d buy one of the 411 and a wireless card for it and use that at my next house.

Does this seem like a decent and possible setup?

Thanks

Hi,

YES. configure the linksys as ap bridge.. you could manage all the network in the 750.

ok thanks

now i guess im just trying to decide between the 750g and 450g
is the 450g worth about the extra 50$ for the 256mb of ram and the 512mb of flash instead of 32mb or ram and 64mb of flash

Im just a home user so theres nothing crazy about my setup
except Im a heavy torrent user which lots of cheaper routers dont like

If you are a home user, why you need gigabit ports? I have 10/100 here in the office..

big media and storage server
easily saturates 100 and might even saturate GbE
itd be nice to have the network not be the bottleneck
especially when there times I’m transferring terabytes
but its often transferring stuff ranging from a gb to 100gb so itd be nice if it was faster

then buy the 450g ; )
