Need more information, is your router working and this is just a message you’re curious about or is your router not working? Is your router PC based or a RouterBoard model?
Two basic things to look at:-
If the Ethernet interfaces are not auto switching make sure you have the correct cable type, e.g. straight or crossover as appropriate. In the days before auto switching interfaces you need to have a crossover cable to connect PCs directly to one another and straight cables to connect PCs to Switches/Hubs. Since routers are often PC based you may need crossover cables.
Sometimes when Ethernet adapters on a link are both set to auto-negotiate, they fail to connect at all. Sometimes you need to fix the rate at one end and allow the other end to sense it’s speed, i.e. 10M or 100M, full duplex or half duplex.
