not getting assigned an ip when i enable wep security.

My problem is that i cant connect to the hotspot and access the internet when i enable wep security on the router. The network cards connect to my ap’s “senao” but i dont get an ip from the router anymore. If i disable wep throught the devices it works again. Hmm im tired…

please someone help me, im dying here!

Yea I’m having the same problem… someone please post an answer to this, or more specifically, a solution on how to fix it. Thanks.

I believe you will need your data to be unencrypted from WEP before any address negotiations will work, as the client is not able to do any IP communications on a WEP encrypted stream. You will have to make sure that WEP is properly configured on both the router/AP and the client radio, and that both ends are being supplied with matching keys by some means of your choosing.

EDIT: Yes, this means that all of your Hotspot customers would have to be supplied with a key somehow, and this would somewhat defeat any small advantage that you already had when using WEP.

x-posting the answer to this. It will not work if you’re using orinoco silver/gold wireless cards (and possibly other hermes chipset based cards. Try using something Prism based.
