I have several Verizon Pantech UML290 USB modems, each connected to a RB2011UiAS. They work fine most of the time, but they are disconnecting from time to time. Logs are getting full with messages like:
async,ppp,info vz: initializing…
async,ppp,info vz: reseting link…
async, ppp, info vz: reseting link… - could not acquire serial port
async,ppp,info vz: disconnected
USB power reset does not work (I’ve tried it up to 30s) and the only way I can make them work is rebooting the router.
Do you have any suggestion how to reset the modem without having to reboot the router.
Yeah, power reset doesn’t work but if you want them to be stable, supply them with external power. That did the trick for me with both the Pantech and Novatel modems. The RB2011 just doesn’t supply enough current to power the modem reliably on it’s own.
I just use a USB OTG Y cable. You can get them on Amazon for a few bucks. I also use a powered hub in one case where I needed a few extra usb serial ports.
