Ping Latency

Hello,

I have several 5 GHz direct P2P links, varying from 3 up to 6 km. Signalstrength, depending on distance, is different from -65 to -77.
Each P2P-Enpoint is a RB500 with a 23 dBi Panel antenna. Each link itself is very stable!

At the moment, I´m not using Nstreme.

But pings to each P2P-Endpoint is varying from 3ms up to 60 ms. Is there´re a way to geht ping latency more constant?

Thank You.
Stefan.

How are your data rates set up? Do you have them fixed?

There is a known problem that when the MikroTik constantly change the wireless data rate this will shortly stop or slow down traffic - which will, amongst other effects, lead to greatly varying ping times…

Just a thought.

umm… would you like it more disconnecting all the time instead of changing rates? router lowering data rate is caused by bad links, period.

@cmit

Yes. This is exactly what I did last night. I fixed the datarates of all p2p-links and now I have a stable ping on all p2p-links.
Thank you for this suggestion, anyhow.

@lastguru:

There´s always the possibility to fallback to the basic-rate (6 mbit). I have no problmes with disconnects, as I choosed a slower data-rate (36 mbit) as possible (54 mbit).

Have a nice day,
Stefan.

I know that, and like this part :wink:

But if the router constantly is trying to go up to a higher data rate (which can’t be held, because signal to bad or the like), it will drop back to the lower data rate. This permanent switching does occur on many links we have and is causing throughput drops and varying ping times as Stefan described above.
What helps is to not permit the router to use higher (!) data rates which are known not to work reliably…

Hallo Christian,

Arno
