Plastic ethernet ports weak?

Anyone else having problems with the plastic Ethernet ports on the 4xxL and 711 series?

I’ve only used a few, but 2 out of 6 have had the Ethernet port almost come off of the board just by trying to disconnect an Ethernet cable.

Has anyone reinforce these?

I’d really hate for my installer to go swap out an Ethernet cable and wind up ripping the Ethernet port off by accident.

YEP. I’m throwing my GL’s out. They’re crap. Nothing but problems. Just unplugging one of mine, and the port pulled right out of the board. WTH is going on with Mikrotik lately…

I can confirm that on my RB711’s the ports are cheapish and the break if lifted too high when removing the cable. It’s harder in housings where you have to get your finger in between the cable jack and the housing, forcing the jack upwards and off the board.

There was another topic about this somewhere and people were hot glueing around the connectors. You could try this.

Thanks for the idea, we’re going to do that. Maybe a bit of glue under the black jack housing too.

normis said that mikrotik has fixed this problem in new batches. there was even a photo posted with 711 having a metal connectors. Personally I haven’t seen them yet, so..

Thanks!

Could you post a link to the other thread.

This issue is resolved then.

I put hot glue on the sides of the two boards I’m working on now. Seems to have taken care of the problem.
