When trying to upload files, are you logged in as user with admin rights? Can you change any other setting (e.g. disable WAN port)? If the answer to first question is yes and to second question no, then your router is “owned”, hacked … and you no longer have admin rights. The only way out is netinstall (which is s pretty fragile process).

The “total sector writes” number is very suspicious, it’s low even for a completely new device (I don’t think the counter is reset when upgrading or netinstalling).

yes Sir i login with admin and my password, also i can change other settings like add bridge add ip…etc and in quick set i have only one interface which is ethernet after deleted wireless app from the package, please is there anyway out to try?

Well … files section, by default, should contain a couple of directories at least (pub/ and skins/), yours is empty. It’s hard to tell what’s wrong. I’d go for netinstall.

i will prepare the netinstall but cant get my device to show on netinstall i been fighting it for almost a week now to get it done but with no success i will be glad if i will get simple quide to put it in netinsall mode by any mean whether window or Linux, and please can iinstall linux on window device using Vmware and try the guide on it?

I guess that netinstall, being fragile, is best run on “bare metal” computer. Many forum users reported that linux (CLI) version is a bit less problematic. You can try booting your computer from a USB disk in “live demo” mode (or whatever it’s called) and run netinstall from there. But personally I don’t have too much problems with running netinstall from Windows.
If your computer is slow when detecting ethernet port becoming connected, you may have to plug a dumb switch between RB951G and computer, it’ll keep PC’s ethernet up&running.

My own method of determining if device is switched into netinstall is to run wireshark on computer running netinstall binary … I always press the reset button (labeled “RES” on RB951G) before applying power and keep it depressed until I see bootp packets on wireshark, it usually takes around 10-20 seconds. It is hard to keep reset button depressed for the whole time because power jack is next to reset button, bit if you slip it, device won’t enter into netinstall mode.

If the reset button is damaged (when pressed it does give a slight tactile feedback), then you can use the “reset pad” … on the board. It’s accessible through small round hole on the bottom side of case, near the ventilation holes. Using a Philips screwdriver you have to short both halves of the pad. It functions thevsamevway as reset button so you have to keep it shorted from the moment you power device on and until you see bootp packets appear on wireshark.

If you see bootp packets in wireshark, but netinstall doesn’t start communicating with RB, you may try using different version of netinstall (netinstall version and ROS version you want to install don’t have to be the same).

And when netinstall starts to behave, it’s best to install all packages necessary in a single run. For RB951G you’ll want to install routeros and wireless packages. Optional packages (i.e. all of them but routeros) can indeed be installed later, but associated default configuration won’t get applied unless you reset config to defaults. You’ll do it after netinstall finishes and if any of optional packages is already installed, default config will be applied as well.

Regardless the instructions in my previous post: be prepared for failure. It cpuld well be that your RB951G reached the end of its flash disk life and if that is so, no amount of netinstalling will get it healthy again. I realky don’t like the number of “total sector writes” being that low. My RB951G, which is around 9 years old and was netinstalled a few times (the last time probably around 2 years ago), upgraded countless times … has counted around 24M sector writes. I don’t remember ever seeing it reset to 0.

i think my reset button is bad i just found out now, because when try to reset the device using the reset button it doesn’t work but by using the reset near the ventilation holes the device makes reset beepsss, if i can use the same hole for netinstall i will try it and give feedback, thanks for your time

i will try as you suggested , i bought it use from someone, i will try if it doesn’t work have no other option. because i cant return it to the previous owner like this, thanks once again for your help

Finally my router is back after multiple trying to show on netinstall using window 7 64bit, i don’t know what happened , but after using the latest netinstall that is when it finally appeared the i choose the 7.18.2 then after successful install then downgrade to 6.49.18, Thank you very much for your help
