Problem with a power adapter for SXTsq 5 ac

Hello!

We have Mikrotik SXTsq 5 ac device, but we lost the original power adapter (24 V 0.38 A power adapter).
We couldn’t find the exact power adapter from our local Mikrotik suppliers and we bought 18VDC 1A, however it does not work with the device as it is turning on/off all the time. Is it because of the different amperage?

Thank you

Hi,
Working PoE in input voltage for this device is 10 to 28 V. Either you have cable problem or new power supply has a problem and can’t provide enough power/amp which is normally can do it easily.

What category cable are you using ? How long it is ?

It should work on 18V but DC-DC converter inside your device is designed for working input voltage between 10 and 28V and for the same power output it will draw more current on lower input voltage.

In combination with long, thin cable and maybe to weak PSU you get this symptoms… Probably your device draw more peak current at start and voltage drops to low.

Try with 24V adapter

I am using PoE injector and cat5 cable various lengths starting from 0.5 metres. I have multiple Mikrotik injectors and power supplies with the same power rating so I eliminate the possibility of a malfunction.

Okay, I will try with 24V adapter.
Do you recommend 24V 0.8 A or with 1.2 A ?

Thank you!

The more amps, the better.

However: SXTsq 5 ac is rated at 7W and with 24V power adapter, that’s 0.3A … and even with 18V power adapter that’s a bit less than 0.4A. Original power adapter (24V, 0.38A) matches that. So if you have problems when using 18V 1.0A adapter over 0.5m cat5e cable, then the problem is not in this department (assuming that PA actually performs as advertised). It can either be power injector or device itself … including corroded contacts in RJ45 port.

Agree with @mkx, your problem is in cable or maybe faulty poe injector.

You can put 20 amp power supply, load will pull only the needed current.
