Problem with RB433 - Kernel loading failed

Hello Supporters,

I have a problem with a Routerboard 433:
I can´t connect to the Routerboard (Routerboot-Version 2.15) with Winbox or Netinstall because the device is not shown (but it got an IP over DHCP). I only can reach it with Serial-Cable and Hyperteriminal (Screenshot). Then I tried to upload the actual OS (RouterOS 4.17, NPK-Files) but after the upload i got the message: “Invalid upgrade file ID”
So I don´t know how to get the RB running - i can´t upload a other file or a older OS - same Error-Message. Should I try a old FWF-File?

I´m looking forward to your advise.

Thanks a lot

Cheers

Christoph

you can’t upload the file with serial terminal, that’s not the right procedure. follow the netinstall guide:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall

Thank you normis for your urgent reply.
I exactly followed the netinstall procedure, but I don´t see the device in netinstall (take a look @ the screenshot). I tried it directly connected to the PC and with a switch between PC an Routerboard. It seems that the routerboard doesn´t get the IP-Adress of the Boot-Server. What are my options now?

Hi,

3 advices:

  1. Use ether1 for netinstalling the device
  2. Make sure your computer’s firewall and antivirus is disabled
  3. Make sure you’ve enabled the “boot server enabled” option undet netbooting buttom.

Hello again,

i tried it many many times with netinstall, on various PCs, with no Antivirus and Firewall active, but i never see the device in the netinstall-Tool.

I tried it with Ethernet-Port 1, 2 and 3

  1. Make sure you’ve enabled the “boot server enabled” option undet netbooting buttom.
Take a look at the Screenshot, i always aktivated the Boot Server and put in the IP for the Router.

Thanks again…

Hello again,

i solved the issue, with your help. I use Sophos Antivirus without Firewall. After I turned the Antivirus-Service off, i can see the device.

Thank you very much for your help!

Perfect… (i wouldn’t mind if you give me some karma) :stuck_out_tongue:

RB2011UAS-RM restored with netinstall (without serial “dances”). Our client broke it (“loading kernel” stucks), and now all is OK!

Netinstall is very useful, thanks MikroTik!
