Hi, we have a question about the CRS804, so we need use a transceivers that are not on Mikrotik's portfolio. We are checking since transceivers will be 400GAUI-8 and MSA compatibility, they will work. But I don't see any information about the power budget for port on SW documentation. I see max is 123W and idel consumption 92W, but I cannot figure is any individual port has limitation.
I mean the switch has the power budget of 31W, if you have 4 ports, its roughly 8W/port.
Meaning that u could potentially plug in transicevers that use 7.5W per port and should be fine as long as it doesn't cross 31W cumulatively.
Why 31, well if max with attachments (meaning transcivers/copper) is 123 - 92 base idle consumption, you get 31 as the budget for transcievers only.
My worry is about use some transceivers that have a 12 W power consumption. So, use only two ports should be fine in this 31w. But I don't know if is a limitation by port, p.e of 8W, or something like that.
So as far as i know there's no actual hardlimiter per port, so to say.
So the dual 12W 400gig qsfp transcievers should work no issues, thats just my assumptions.
Take it with a grain of salt but i think u can run more than 31W, so for example u can have 4x 12W transcievers but u risk overheating and killing something (transcievers, cages or even the switch itself). So, my assumption is you can't necessarely fry something, but u risk overheating, double 12W should be more than safe.
