Hello everyone. I have hAP ac2, RouterOS v7.20.4. Everything works, but the quick settings are missing. Resetting the configuration doesn't help. How can I fix it?
Thanks.
Hi and welcome.
Everything related to Webfig (which includes Quickset) is known to be a problem in 7.20.4.
Try to use Winbox or downgrade to 7.20.2 (or even 7.19.4).
and here I thought that was an improvement! ![]()
I am wondering why Mikrotik does not release a hotfix for these "critical" WebFig issues? It is broken since Nov 06 when 7.20.4 came out. What is the reason for waiting so long?
The issue is there should have been some long-term channel long ago. Or created another channel like previous-stable/whatever, since MikroTik seems to treat "long term" meaning as sacrosanct (while at same time making users go through the manual downgrade process when bugs are found in stable).
WebFig was radically changed only in pretty recent V7, so easy to imagine bugs (and sometime regressions from bug fixes as here) - but since there is not long-term, it make finding bugs in stable more annoying since you have download packages by hand (instead of just picking a new channel).
For me the biggest problem here is that it is present in the latest version.
And what do most users do when they get a new device ?
There should indeed have been a hot/quick/whatever-fix for quite some time already.
This is too basic to let it hang around so long.
Agree. But in fairness, I doubt MikroTik installing 7.20.4 from factory on anything & QuickSet is typically used on first install... so I'm not sure it as bad it seems.
7.20.x is not yet used in factory, I would think.
There was a 7.19.5 especially released as factory version. I'm going to make an educated guess that's the latest version for newly produced devices, for some models.
Well, 7.20.3 was made/released for factory use:
and almost immediately replaced by 7.20.4, so I don't believe that 7.20.3 is much different.
Ah yes, got things mixed up.
In that case the specific model where that version is being used, might have some fun behavior depending on how it's being accessed.
Of course it is really disappointing that a 7.20.5 with this bug resolved still has not been released…
And also that there is no attempt to mark some version (like 7.19.6) as long-term so users can downgrade to that without special skills.
I tried to be fair ;), but geez... While I don't use regularly use QuickSet, that is just a shitty experience if you tried to follow the booklet in box (which will get you QuickSet) to initialize the router.
This is not only about QuickSet, the issue is that the whole webfig (where QuickSet is just one option) does not work in 7.20.4
For me, the last (what I could call) stable was 7.20.2. Later iterations prevented me communicating with customers devices remotely using L2TP/IPsec. Rolling back to 7.20.2 resolved the issue. Seems that whenever they try to improve something lately they invariably break something else as a result, then release it as “stable”.
I think the answer is to only upgrade at point one or two releases, for example, 7.19.1/2 would be upgraded when 7.20.1/2 comes available, etc… That way the initial release has had bugs ironed out, but not before too many more bugs are introduced. Not perfect, but good as a workaround.
7.19.6, for example, is the most stable release of the 7.19 branch. In theory, it should actually be one of the worst. If you follow the 7.20 release discussions, you'll see that the entire 7.20 branch has had several issues from the very beginning.
They do need to improve their regression testing prior to releasing "stable" versions.
Well, as it has been explained before many times: you cannot make a lot of changes and then release it as “stable”, it should always be “beta” first.
