RB2011 v6.04 crashed and now won't stop crashing

One of my RB2011 routers crashed after months of up time.

I was running pppoe static IP plus a /29 subnet and a /28 subnet. I asked the ISP to delete the smaller unused /29 subnet. Once they got around to this, one morning the RB2011 crashed and just showed 3 or 4 Ethernet leds blinking all in sync. The deletion of the subnet do doubt changed their advertisements and that likely hosed the router. Last time a saw a RB2011 with ethernet leds pumping out some sort of undocumented error code I had to restore the router completely with Netinstall.

I understand that Winbox is never a good way to restore when possible corruption exists.

But now it won’t stay up after rebooting. So I am going to assume I have a corrupt OS and Netinstall needs to be performed.

I have serial cable console access and firmware is showing as 3.16. Is there any need to move to 3.18?

Also, what steps do I take to ensure a clean install with a stable OS. So before upgrading to 6.19 should I do something else first ?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Take backup from your config with

Do that in new terminal type export file=export

Start netinstall procedure.

After that update the BIOS

In dutch and older update but folow this steps

The routers backup every night with Scripts and Scheduler in case of disaster. And this is a disaster because I have customers down.

Thanks very much for your help.

As for the BIOS update, I see your instructions but I am not sure I really want to take that step. 3.16 or 3.18 ? Will it matter to me?

The best is the latest bios update.
Who stands in the bottom window.
Click on update.
Sometimes a reboot is necessary.

start this crashing all of a sudden? or after which change it starts? if no config change was done. take a spare router and import the config. if the problem gone it’s most probably a hardware issue.

Id bet money that if you pulled the Lid, you would find blown/bulgy caps.

What does the router board?
You hear the two beeps?
Follow the netinstall procedure to try recover the routerboard.
