RB3011 really broken?

Hi,
For many years I have a RB3011 in my lab, but some weeks ago suddenly it would not boot anymore.
I’ve tried netinstall-cli on my Linux but it does not really complete.

RouterBOOT booter 7.16beta7
RouterBOARD 3011UiAS
CPU frequency: 1400 MHz
Memory size: 1 GiB
NAND size: 128 MiB

Press Ctrl+E to enter etherboot mode
Press key within 2 seconds to enter setup..
writing settings to flash… OK
trying bootp protocol… OK
Got IP address: 192.168.88.51
resolved mac address DC:0E:A1:16:CB:EB
transfer started … transfer ok, time=4.40s
setting up elf image.. ==> It stays like that forever.

With the CLI-tool I wanted to push the 7.16.1-arm.npk file to this box.
I know I f*cked by formatting the NAND (licensing key probably gone, but I’ll deal with that later)

When I ran the memory-test from the boot-menu through serial console…I got some output that I did not like either…

Error in address=0x413FFEA0, W=0x413FFEA0 R=0x4100AED4 X=0x003F5074

(keeps repeating forever it seems, does not pass that address-location)

So … what else is there to try execept for the trashcan ?

Replace RAM?

Might not be so easy to do yourself but AFAIK there should be some repair shops offering such service.

Ask for an offer and then evaluate if it’s worth the cost or go immediately for brand new shiny RB5009

They may be shiny, but fun level is anywhere near what RB3011 provides: full 1U dimension, LCD display, two switch chips, etc. Only colour comes near RB3011’s black

True, the RB3011 really looks bad ass with its LCD-display

Isn’t that the same display which can cause performance problems ??

@holvoetn now you started to nitpick. Who cares about performance if it looks this great?

If @jvanhambelgium cared about performance, then he wouldn’t even think about fixing RB3011 (6x routing speed at 80% power consumption).

Sorry …

< back to my corner …>

Yeah I remember some threads about that
Back on the days of 6.x releases I think.

This machine was my lab-router. I’ve moved to RB5009 some years ago as my main home-router now.
I think the time has come to lay the RB3011 permanently to rest and look around.

Perhaps a small hEX (re-released edition)
