RB411U slow after installing SW MC8790 minipci-e card

Hi guys,

I have just bought Sierra wireless minipci-e MC8790 card in order to connect to an UMTS provider. The first thing i noticed after installing it into RB411U was that the system became slow and unresponsive. The driver and USB port were active and PPP connection has auto-installed. Right after I try to scan the UMTS network the system (almost) hangs and no network adapters can be seen. I found a thread were a solution was proposed that I upgrade the firmware of MC8790 to 2.xx, but I don’t know how to, since its inserted into RB411U. Any suggestions, maybe other solutions, has anyone experienced similar problems?

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade the RouterOS to v5.0beta4 and test again.

Hi Uldis,

I have installed v5 beta4. Router is now responsive, but I cant see any UMTS networks when i perform scan. If i use Globetrotter modem I have no problems. Any hints?

contact the support@mikrotik.com with the support output file.
Try to use different channel.

Confirming solution. I updated a firmware to 2.0.7x on my mini-PCI adapter and the router is responsive and works perfectly. In order to upgrade the mini-PCIe adapter you need the board or converter to USB and Sierra Wireless software upgrade. (Be sure to upgrade the Sierra Wireless board firmware before upgrading the firmware on the mini-pcie adapter (MC8790). The correct (easiest) procedure would be to contanct your local Sierra Wireless distributor, (because Sierra Wireless firmware and upgrade solutions aren’t free for public (mini-pcie models, USB are)) and let them upgrade it for you.

Good routing!

p.s.

Works with RoS 4.10 and beta5 np.
