rb780UP! - Total power consumption, and more wishes...

Yes, thats what we want, a 750UP but with more ports. Most of my towers have more than 4 units so almost everywhere I have to use at least 2 rb750UPs.
Would it not be nice to have an 8 PoE-out port unit as well?
Off course the input port must be able to supply them all but that can’t be a problem.

I think the 750UP’s are already almost the best you can find on the market for such price level to do remote monitoring of battery voltages, power consumption, automatic power-cycle of failing attached units etc. But I can do with more ports… (and thus less boxes, less cables, less hazzle)

Also, an overall power consumption meter (graph!) would be nice. I would like to see what the unit PLUS all its connected devices is consuming.
I actually want to see a 10secs average so I can make a accurate estimate on how long a certain battery setup will work against a certain consumption.
It will also make it more easy to actually measure the difference in consumption between certain usage mode of attached units (like traffic of AP’s, or temperature differences)


If MT will bring a 6 or 8 port (or even more, but than we nees the smaller units too) on the market with the extras mentioned they would have the ultimate remote power controller with all the funcionality of the ROS. No competition for such a product!

P.S.
Can the technician look at the voltage calibration of the serveral PoE-out devices, including the rb750UP? The are not very accurate. I see difference of .4 to a full volt difference between real and measured voltage. This is important if you run scripts to warn agains battery voltage level drop or when units have to be switched off to preserve last power left in the battery bank…
Or maybe a software (or hardware) option to calibrate the units ourselves…?

I would like to see poe ports on ccr and redundant power on ccr.
One big router per site would make installations very clean.

Instead of going for APC power monitoring cards. I really wish Mikrotik had something inbuilt in the high end routers.
Let us have the freedom to connect batteries directly to the Routerboard.

I agree on this. My central which connects to my backbone supplier has a CCR. But it is the only unit with 220V supply (through an UPS which sucks and is unreliable and very expensive) in my whole network. Only for this unit I need to have a ups. And a remote/IP 220V power switch is also expensive (and too big and too complicated).
MT should make its whole range working with 12v-24v since battery backup is most reliable and with some rb750UP’s you can control and monitor the power of your whole network.

CCR’s on all towers would be a little bit overdone imho… They are too big, consume too much power which has to be 220V and are too expensive and too powerfull to handle a couple of AP’s or backhauls.
For use in remote towers with battery backup and/or solar power these rb750’s are perfect. They are small, cheap, consume little power and do the job they need to do. But I’ll bet many of us can do with units with more ports to serve more units.

+1000 for poe SWITCH (router) with ROS functionality and with more than 5 ports.
Just my 5 cents:

  1. we need switches with 8,12 and 16 ports. More ports means redudancy if some port failure occurs (sometimes it happens:)).
  2. we need full ROS switch functionality + vlan tagging.
  3. 12 and 16 p switches must be with at least 1xSFP port.
  4. 12 and 16 p switches we will expect in 19" 1U/2U formfactor.
  5. We will expect at least 3 power inputs with monitoring function (integrated into case main 230VAC input, DC 24V in batteries and 10-30V DC input from solar panel).
  6. Mtik is on right path to integrate 2g wireless ap for management. WE agree to pay additional money for this.
  7. No af is needed, but 48V passive poe would be welcome.

So, 6 points for the 750 versus 7 for the 2011.
Off course, some would weigh some items higher than others.
When very high througputs are to be expected, the 2011 will be the choice.
When PoE is of importance with volt monitor the 750 probably is the winner, also because it will be cheaper.

To have both of best worlds combined: 8-10 ports (5+5) with Poe-out on all 9/10 ports with full voltage and amp monitors and the higher end cpu specs for the 2011 serie would probably make it an expensive box.

Imho an in-between model with 8-10 Poe-out ether (giga is nice) ports and full (per port and overall) power consumption/usage monitoring but with the cheapest chipset/memory option would make a very nice featured model for towers, special if they are solar charged!

The best of both worlds option would make it an expensive box, but for crowded high-end towers finances are probably the lesser issue!

Lets hope MT reads this and see in Venice what they are cooking… :smiley:

Important to have a Board capable of big frames and MPLS. If its possible to combine with a Choice between 48V and 24V output it would be Perfect.

DC Power option (12-48V)
10 ( or more) gigabit Ethernet With poe.

Put an option to Connect external battery - 12 or 24V and it could be used as an UPS
