Does anybody have comments / experiences about power hungry mPCI-e boards on RB912UAG-2HPND (BaseBox2)?
The symptom is that Huawei ME909s-120 LTE modem hangs (no response from the modem) when somewhat higher traffic is passing through. If the traffic is just few Mbits/s this usually does not happen. (RouterOS 6.39.2, modem FW 11.617.06.00)
This does not happen if I disable WiFi and use Ethernet for accessing the network.
From this discovery I started to suspect that this may be due to excessive loading of the internal power supply of the Routerboard. ME909s-120 needs 3.2-4.2V, 3,8 recommended, did not see current rating, but obviously can go close to 1A.
I have been using many Basebox-2 with Sierra MC7710 for years as MIFi GW, but ran into this problem after lightning recently burned one modem and MC7710 is at EoL.
I tested with 2 different Routerboards and 3 different modems. The result were consistent. Also using MC7710 the system does not hang even at 70+ Mbit/s using Wifi.
Another related observation: Same ME909s modems work fine in RB922UAGS-5HPacD
