this is a very interesting topic, but i did to myself a question before buy an adapter for rm520ngl, usb 3 or mpcie???
why so many users use m2 to mpcie rather than usb 3?
i’m using m2 to eth/usb on ax3
I have a RBM11G with RM520N-GL on a MiniPCIe to M.2 adapter.
I also modified a LHG LTE18 and inserted a RM520N-GL.
Also tried it with an M.2 to USB adapter attached to a HEX S.
All are working fine.
On the LHG you may need a thicker thermal pad btw. The EG18-EA is a pcb on a pcb so it’s thicker than a standard RM520N-GL. Also the antenna connectors are different so you’ll need adapters from IPEX/U.FL to IPEX4.

think, because the modems supporting USB3 are not that common yet …

beasts like Intel-based Fibocom 7560 promise cat16 speeds, but only if you can manage to set up a PCIe-datalink between board and modem-hardware, USB3 is only listed as future-firmware option

IMHO … if you need your LTE-sytems for production or even permanent home-using … do net mess around and purchase the MT-Supported options …

if you need a new … and quizzing hobby … … why not have both … ?

after tinkering for while … that much is to recap:
rbm33g … is a real nice board … period

ordered it to test the ip passtrough feature for a redundant firewall-cluster with sd-wan capabilities ( so I needed more then one gig-ether-interfaces and wanted the option to use external antennas )

used the original cat6 mini-PCI-modem from a stock LtAP to do so … stability and handling … flawless.

while owning the hardware ( … and not managing a home-aquarium) … it’s obvious to do some tests on the side:

had some intel-based fibocom and quectel modem devices avail … the board rbm33g is also well supported from more liberately accessible operating systems … so I did my part …
what I have learned from:

i’m still using a 433ah, and last year a 493 passed away… they are great piece of hardware, well structured in a good routeros.
in any case mikrotik routerboard and routeros, gives so many possibilities to satisfy every necessitiies so please mikrotik more m.2 ports with full speed bus.
I would hope that MikroTik some time releases a semi-outdoor device that provides 5G connection as delivered…
(i.e. without having to find modems and adapters etc to build something)
There are already some 4G devices like that.

i’m having lte down link with error 19, at least once or more per day.
lte mbim: error: wdm send failed: 19
hardware is hap ax3->usb3cable->m.2/eth/usb adapter with rm520ngl.
I was using m.2 adapter without power supply, now since this morning i’m using power supply just to check.
Bts is 4x4 mimo in lte e 2x2 nsa 5g dss, so i suppose usb power is enough.
signal are good, rsrp -70db sinr 20-25db, bts is in front of me, 1/1,5 km far, so i’m using rabbit antenna came with adapter.
Firmware was upgraded, but problem started before firmware upgrade from R01..204 to V0108_01.205.01.205 (so last one) but problem still persist.
I tried to switch lte modem from auto to mbim, with same results.
what can i check?

It’s not possible to reach 700Mbit/s with the USB2.0 modifications made by you on the T99W175. The usb2 limit allows realistically to reach ≈ 380Mbit/s

Which T99W175 version you have? T99W175.33 or T99W175.36 etc… Also what is the DP/N or can you send a full photo? My final question there is no FCC lock on it?

I want to upgrade MikroTik RBLHGR&R11e-LTE6 dish to an ESIM modem and preferably one that supports 5g. I know the ethernet port will be the bottle neck, but nevertheless this configuration should give me some more options with being able to connect to 5g towers etc. Reading through this thread I was thinking of using T99w175-esim but would I still have to do the hardware mod with bridging the pins and isolating the other pin? If so why would I need to force it into USB mode, as the card would be working via a Pcie to M.2 adapter, so I don't understand why I need USB mode for my Mikrotik dish?
The only other issue is that the cheap aliexpress listings for T99w175-esim have now sold out and the product seems to have risen in price. Any alternatives for 5g and Esim?
