I’m looking to convert my router over to a proxmox virtual server running CHR and a few other things. The question is how much power I need and if anyone has recommended vendors.
E.g. Atom vs core i5 vs core i7 vs Xeon d vs Xeon e3 vs e5?
How about ram?
Any recommendations? Looking for 1 gbps with ipsec tunnels.

i would like to know that too.
I am planing to build CHR system with i7 but know much details how to do it with which hardware.
I’m also planning to get a CHR router up and running for doing BGP.
I think the best solution will be any tipe of workstation board with intel nics, supporting VMDq(Virtual machine Device queues).
ECC Ram(Normal ones could also work but we want stability)
And the host system running VMWare ESXI.
I would suggest a CPU with high frequency and good single threaded performance
