Request: Dual Band WiFi in Consumer Routers

Why aren’t we seeing dual band 2.4 and 5 Ghz in the consumer-grade devices? The big box stores are full of them and the RouterBoards best them on every measure except dual-band.

Hopefully mikrotik will also make a device that will be capable of working in both bands simultaneously - that is dual radio, not single radio.

I really think the MikroTik RB953 could be a such device, or am I wrong?

In my opinion better paying at first more and then fill not the forum what is

Would be great to see something on top like mSATA support for 40,80 and
120 GB mSATA disks for having a “NAS Router” or a huge log file storage.

Such a device as the RB953 with sufficent RAM soldered on board would be
a long time running device and in my opinion this is really cheap.

As an example:
You pay 300 € all in all and the RB953 is running 5 years

5 years x 12 month = 60 month
300 € : 60 month = 5 € for each month
5 € monthly : ~30 days = ~17 cent a day!

And by the given capabilities of this board, for around ~17 cent
for each day we don´t talk about a really cheap device, in my eyes!

This might be true, but you are free to insert another WiFi card
at this RB or two likes you want.

this is SO BADLY NEEDED - keep it simple. Why does Mikrotik continue to lose router sales for us, when nearly every $ 100+ router from Best buy has dual-band?

It shouldn’t be too hard to add a 5 Ghz radio to the RB2011 either. I never did figure out why the 2011 series is not all Gigabit Ports and have dual radios. It’s a great SOHO A/P Router.

Even the new CCS doesn’t have dual radios?

Of Scouse the CCS needs to have a mounting (both rack and wall) option. Is it really that much to add optional dog ears to the switch?

I’ve built some dual band MikroTiks, but there is not a good looking, competitive cost solution.

I’m pretty desperate for such upgraded / facelifted RB951 . One of my clients runs Windows/Android tablets for their security guards as they are on the prowl and I’m struggling to keep up.

As others stated, a nice dual-band board in consumer packaging would be awesome. So far I run a RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN which is almost perfect (why those FastEthernet ports?!), but with more and more WiFi networks filling the ISM band, I really “need” to add 802.11ac (5Ghz) and extend my existing 2.4Ghz with another AP (idea: lower power on both of those 2.4Ghz APs to not unnecessarily will the ether with my network).

I am on the same boat. Mikrotik needs integrated dual radio device in package like mAP or cAP. Concurrent dual band (=dual radio) is standard in all professional wireless networks. I know we can add another radio card to some Mikrotik boards and put it in a box, but it doesn’t look good and requires some assembly. I’ve heard that Mikrotik is working on device like this but it is not even in FCC so (probably) it will not be available before 2015 Q2.

Hate using UniFi but its what the competition specs. When I can’t get Ruckus… the UniFi Aps go in there.

Would love to have something dual band in the Mikrotik family. Well that is… if it is any good, and not a “me too” product. I mean Caps man looks like a cool way to run my networks… but single band APs would be too big a step backwards.

UniFi is a far better solution than anything else low cost.

My assumption is that the indoor wireless enterprise market is not a priority. I would guess this is because of the WISP heritage. It’s difficult to assemble an indoor mikrotik access point that meets normal expectations (poe, gigabit, 2x2 dual band, central management).

… though it would be single chain for one of the bands, since there are only three antenna holes in the case. I will take another look at indoor Mikrotik wireless when capsman is a couple years old and the integrated boards are better spec’d.
