ROS7: Requests for wireless features

Let’s collect all feature requests (for ROS 7) regarding wireless in this thread.

Starting with an extended version of an existing request my me:

Dual radio, same ssid , preferred 5GHz band
802.11r/k, Band Steering

Two issues:
1.) ROS6 wireless package does everyting: CPE, AP mode, NV2, long distance outdoor etc., P2P, P2MP and so on
Hard to support all this with all the new features together you ask for (and sometimes they are exclusive)
2.) Most of the features you mention will only apply / be useful to the AP’s, and then also only to AP’s with 4 or 8 streams/antennas.
MU-MIMO, Beam forming etc. Today there is only RB4011 which has 4 streams and could really benefit form all those features.
Mtik should bring out more 4x4 solutions to use those features efficiently and also tri band solutions to be able to use
distributed Wifi (as the earlier presented Audience product).

I also would like to see

  • MESH / SON (Self organising network) funcitons with automatic backhaul selection
  • Band steering (to me more important that ATF)!
