Router doesn't show in Winbox "Neighbors" list

On two different occations I’ve experienced that Mikrotik units connected to a WAN network (with Ether1) does not show when refreshing the Neighbors list in Winbox. If I enter the unit’s IP-address, I’m able to connect to it and manage it. Units are hAP ac lite and 951-2n. Both have RouterOS 6.43.7.
The Winbox PC is connected to the same WAN network. Both units have default configuration + accept tcp on port 8291, Connection to the unit’s LAN side works OK.

Have tried to disable all firewall rules, but still no success.

Any ideas?

Are those interfaces enabled in the “discovery settings” in IP → Neighbors ?

Thanks for the response!
Only the LAN interface was enabled. Tried to change it to “All”, but then only ether1 showed up in the list (from my LAN connection). Is this correct?
However - this made the router show up in Winbox Neighbors on the WAN side.

Additional note: It seems like Mikrotik has started to name interfaces like LAN and WAN instead of ether1, bridge1 etc. Is there a benefit in doing this?

Thanks for your help! Just saved me from building a new config on the router

Hello Olaf,

I haven’t seen the WAN LAN naming convention that you mention. I personally would not like it as I find it very confusing to make a quick corelation between WAN and etherX.

Many of my students do that (rename interfaces). Instead, I encourage them to use comments. There are no ports labeled WAN or LAN on the boxes.

Regards

Sent from my cell phone. Sorry for the errors.

There are interfaces and then there are interface-lists … I’ve noticed interface-lists named LAN and WAN … while interfaces remain to be named ether1 and bridge.

Thanks for clarifying!
Is it possible - in Winbox - to create and maintain these interface lists.
I can see them defined in the default config script, but prefer to make configurations in a graphical interface..

… Also found the lists in Winbox. Sorry for not checking well before posting.. :frowning:

Anyway - thanks for your help!
