Router loses internet/freezes when iPhone is connected

Dear All,

I have a RB951G-2HnD router set up with 2x wifi singals:

  • one wifi is behind a VPN connection,
  • other one (non-VPN) gives direct access to the internet.

The problem that from time to time when I start using my my iPhone (5 IOS 7.0.4) connects to the wifi that is connected to the non-VPN wifi, this for some reason causes the router loses internet connection, its IP address (192.168.1.1) becomes inaccessible and none of the devices in the house have internet connection for 1-2 mins. Rebooting the router solves the problem in 10-15 secs. This can happen regardless whichever app (Facebook, Safari, Mail) I open up on the phone.

For example I am streaming a move through the VPN wifi signal and I open my iphone to check a FB message (using the non-VPN wifi) and then the movie streaming stops and I know that by then the router is not accessible. I have to add that I do not lose the wifi signal, all devices remain “connected” to the router but there is no internet access.

This does not always happen but it does happen often enough to make it annoying.

Anyone has any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Regards,
Dundy
